Relationships

Humankind's obsession with emotional relationships - sex, marriage, reproduction, commitment, etc. - disturbs and fascinates me. After religion it seems to be the biggest cause of deceit, suffering and hypocrisy in the world. I look at the innumerable people who endure quite astonishing hardships either to find or maintain some pseudo-mythical ideal of a relationship that as far as i can see has no inherent worth (assuming it even exists).

It is obvious that I have a minority view, and thus the possibility exists that I am simply wrong. It is possible that I am missing something vital and obvious, or that I am simply some kind of sociopath. It is also possible that I am right, and the rest of the world is wrong.

These writings (currently numbering just one), are my attempts to explore and understand relationships, and hopefully to demonstrate that their worth is illusory.

Note that these writings only cover the classic, western-traditional momagamous heterosexual relationships. I am well aware that there are alternatives that these writings don't cover. However, part of the point of these writings is to disect the myth that the standard relationship is anything other than an arbitrary standard, and so addressing non-standard relationships is generally outside their scope.
